Additional Information: »These very popular classes are done in the Gordon West style. This means live lecture, no PowerPoint, live radios in the classroom, and lots of electronic components for you to examine. You will actually be on the air, briefly, and legally, on Saturday morning, even though you do not yet have a license. We try to make these classes fun, with student participation and live demonstrations. There will be a couple of short videos, and some slides to illustrate points that are being discussed. »The class runs for the weekend, two full days, starting at 0800 on both days, and runs until 1700 on Saturday. On Sunday, the class will finish around 1600, and then the FCC examination will be administered. 35 questions, no time limit. Your exam will be graded in the classroom, and you will have your score before you leave. Classes start ON TIME both days. »There is a long enough lunch break to allow you to go to one of the local eateries, or you can bring your own lunch. There is also at least one morning and one afternoon break. There is no microwave in the classroom. »This class is held at Downey Fire Station #1, 12222 Paramount Blvd., Downey, CA. The class is held in the building behind the station. Come in the metal gate from Orange street. (The side street by the station). »The fee of $75 covers all needed study material, including the textbook. When you register, we will send you a study packet, by return Priority Mail. It includes Gordo’s Q&A study guide, developed by Gordo over many years of teaching classes, study tips, and some miscellaneous materials. This Q&A has proven to be a very effective study aid, helping students to “Zero In” on the material. There is, unfortunately, a separate $14 exam fee. This is charged by our processor, who checks your application, verifies all is well, and submits it to the FCC. »Also included are refreshments. Water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, breakfast pastries, and usually potato chips. We use the Keurig single serve coffeepot. Sometimes a student brings donuts. »There is free parking on the street, and traffic is not too bad on both mornings. Sorry, we can’t say the same about afternoon traffic going home. »Register by sending a check or money order for $75, made out to WynnsRadio. Mail it to Wynnsradio, P.O. Box 3793, Cerritos, CA 90703. Your $14 exam fee will be collected on Sunday, just before the exam. »We also raffle off a Ham hand-held radio. To enter, you must attend the full class, and pass the exam. It will be pre-programmed with a few basic repeater channels, and the battery will be charged for use. NOTE: You cannot use it to transmit until you have received your call sign from the FCC. »Why does this class cost more than other classes? Biggest single expense is the textbook and study material, including shipping by Priority Mail. It costs us over $40 the buy it, and ship it to you Then there are facility costs, and also refreshments. Many of our demonstration items are purchased specifically for this class, and are not found in any other classes. Other costs include the raffled radio.
